TITLE: Assistant Teacher or Aide 24-25 school year

REPORTS TO: Director and Lead Teacher

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in supervising and implementing the age-appropriate curriculum in a loving Christian atmosphere.

QUALIFICATIONS

GENERAL

  1. Must be able to relate to children and adults
  2. Must respect the needs and feelings of others
  3. Must be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the school’s philosophy
  4. Show evidence of Christian maturity and a strong grasp of the essence of Christian education.
  5. Meet the state requirements and qualifications for a teacher assistant.

SPIRITUAL

  1. Must be a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  2. Must be an active member of Calvary Chapel Murrieta or a church of like faith.
  3. Must believe that the Bible is God’s Word and the standard for faith and daily living.
  4. Must be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others; showing a consistent walk with Jesus Christ.
  5. In all work is sensitive to the needs of people.

PROFESSIONAL

  1. Must have a high school diploma
  2. Must have completed at least:
    • Six (6) units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development at an accredited college.
  3. Must provide the following forms and information:
    • Preschool Employment Application
    • Ministry Application
    • Statement of Faith
    • Personnel Record (LIC 501)
    • Health Screening Report (LIC 503)
    • Criminal Record Statement (LIC 508)
    • Notice of Employee Rights (LIC 9052)
    • Reporting Requirements for Suspected Child Abuse (LCI 9108)
    • Criminal Background Clearance Transfer Request (LIC 9182)
    • Proof of a negative TB skin test
    • Proof of MMR Vaccine
    • Proof of Pertussis Vaccine
    • Proof of Flu Shot or Decline Letter (annually)
    • Copy of Valid Driver’s License or other form of picture ID
    • Transcripts
  4. Must be certified in Pediatric CPR and First Aid.

PHYSICAL

  1. Must be able to observe, hear, and respond to the needs of children and to emergencies or conflicts that might arise in a classroom, on the playground, or in common areas.
  2. Must have the ability to lift children of up to fifty pounds from the floor to waist high; to crouch to a child’s height and maintain eye contact at a child’s level; to sit on the floor; to stand tall enough to reach children who are on play equipment; and to determine and communicate cognitive, social, and physical needs of children orally and in writing in the English language.
  3. Must feel confident that they can handle the stress, tension, and exasperation of daily contact with staff members, parents, and children.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

GENERAL (Responsible for): 

  1. Being in attendance at Calvary Murrieta Preschool during scheduled hours of work.
  2. Attending prayer and devotion times as scheduled by Director.
  3. Respecting each child as an individual, making them feel important.
  4. Assuming an equal share of joint housekeeping responsibilities for both inside the building and outside on the playground.
  5. Communicating with personnel and working as a team to ensure the high quality of care given at school.
  6. Sharing ideas and materials with other personnel.
  7. Being submissive to authority.
  8. Sharing in the daily and weekly work of classroom and playground set-up and clean-up which includes locking up for the weekend.
  9. Assisting in making sure classrooms and other areas of the school are neatly arranged and clean.
  10. Participating in and attending monthly staff meetings, curriculum planning, professional growth training days, and other school-sponsored programs such as:
    • Parent Orientation
    • Meet Your Teacher Day
    • Back to School Night
    • Open House
    • Conferences & Seminars

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

  1. Assists in the implementing of the daily program under the direction of the lead teacher, and director.
  2. Assists the teacher and other personnel in obtaining any supplies or materials that are needed.
  3. Assists in preparing the learning environment by setting up and preparing needed materials and supplies.
  4. Assists in supervising the classroom/playground.
  5. Is responsible for general housekeeping tasks as assigned by the teacher and the director.
  6. Filling up the bleach bottles (1 tsp. bleach in spray bottle filled with water) before the session starts and making sure the water is clean throughout the session.
  7. Assisting in documenting, filing papers in children’s files, and hanging art work.
  8. Cleaning art supplies between sessions and putting them away at the end of use.
  9. Replacing art newspaper on tables between sessions, if needed.
  10. Assisting in putting away equipment or supplies at the end of the day.
  11. Assisting in keeping the classroom clean by cleaning the cots, chairs, tables, counters, sinks, shelves, toys, refrigerator & microwave (if applicable), bathrooms, and whatever else may need cleaning.
  12. Assisting the teacher supervise the children in and out of the classroom.
  13. Making sure the table is cleaned/disinfected and setting up the correct number of chairs for snack and lunch.
  14. Assisting the teacher with keeping the classroom animals cared for such as cleaning cages, keeping food containers filled, and equipment clean.
  15. Checking children’s files for any papers being returned to the teacher or office.
  16. Treats all children with dignity and respect.
  17. Exhibits a warm and friendly personality to children, staff, and parents.
  18. Accepts additional appropriate duties as assigned by the teacher and/or the director.

PLAYGROUNDS

  1. Wiping down equipment when it is wet.
  2. Keeping the shed neat and clean, which includes sweeping.
  3. Daily set up of a variety of activities for outdoor play using the teacher’s lesson plans as a guideline.
  4. Constant supervision of the children to ensure their safety and prevention of accidents.
  5. Assisting children to abide by the center’s playground rules.
  6. Reporting any repairs or maintenance that needs to be done on the equipment or environment.
  7. Assisting in putting equipment and supplies away at the end of the day.
  8. Assisting the teacher with their class during clean-up time (when they are putting equipment away) before doing your clean-up work.
  9. Checking the classroom and playground first aid kit on a weekly basis, and adding supplies as needed.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  1. Assisting in making daily health observations of the children and reporting conditions needing attention.
  2. Ensuring the safety of the children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, and proper set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  3. Assisting children with bathroom needs and guiding them towards proper manners.
  4. Assisting children in changing clothes, if needed.
  5. Checking the cleanliness of the bathrooms in the classroom which may include cleaning the toilets, sinks, floors, and making sure there are adequate supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc.
  6. Filling out an “Ouch” report whenever administering first aid to a child, having the teacher check and sign the report.
  7. Understanding the school’s fire drill and disaster procedures and assisting the teachers whenever needed.
  8. Being informed and instructed on any medical alert situations with children such as bee stings, asthma, and allergies.

SNACKS, LUNCHES, COOKING ACTIVITIES

  1. Recording any food allergies of children and making sure precautions are always taken.
  2. Assisting the teacher with children’s lunch.
  3. Sitting and eating with the children during lunch time; and assisting them when needed.
  4. Serving the snack. All children must have the opportunity to eat a snack.
  5. Enforcing table manners for all food activities (wash hands before eating, etc.)
  6. Assisting the teacher with cooking activities and for using safety precautions (especially with sharp knives and anything hot.)
  7. Cleaning and disinfecting all tables and counter tops that have been used for food-related activities (1 tsp. bleach in spray bottle filled with water).
  8. Sweeping under tables and for cleaning up spills and messes.

NAPTIME

  1. Making sure that all cots have a clean sheet and blanket at the beginning of each week.
  2. Putting cots in areas of room where child may sleep undisturbed, over tile floor if child wets during nap or away from others if child does not sleep regularly.
  3. Supervising children during naptime. During this time you must walk around the room, checking on the children and keep visual contact at all times. This is not a time to be working on a project, cleaning, cutting, etc. You must have visual contact with all of the children at all times.
  4. Putting cots away at end of naptime, giving a note of cots with defects to the teacher, and cleaning cots as often as instructed by Director and after “accidents.”
  5. Removing sheets and blankets off of cots on the last day of the week and sending them home to be laundered.

PROFESSIONAL

  1. Communicating kindly and patiently with parents.
  2. Maintaining professional attitudes, confidentiality, and loyalty to the school.
  3. Communicating with other personnel and working as a team player to ensure the high quality of care given at the center.
  4. Attends staff meetings and training programs as deemed necessary by the director.
  5. Furthering one’s growth and knowledge in Early Childhood Education by continuing education, readings, or attending workshops and seminars.

OTHER

  1. Assisting in keeping the storage areas neat and clean.
  2. Assisting in sorting, storing, and arranging supplies that are brought in.
  3. Assisting with inventory of supplies.
  4. Doing anything above and beyond your job description that needs attention or may help another person.
  5. Filling in as a teacher substitute whenever needed, if qualified.
  6. All other duties requested by the teacher and/or director.
