Title: Lead Preschool Teacher 24-25 school year

Reports To: Director

Position Summary

Responsible for developing and implementing an on-going age-appropriate program of activities that promote social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual development of each child under in a loving Christian atmosphere.

We expect Lead Preschool Teachers to be educated, kind, loving, fun, professional, reliable, creative and have a growth mindset. Lead teachers should display the love of Christ in all that they do and instill a love of learning in their students while helping each student learn at his or her own pace.

Spiritual Qualifications

  • Must have received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior
  • Believe that the Bible is God’s Word and is the standard for faith and daily living
  • Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions
  • Demonstrate a consistent walk with Jesus Christ both at work and outside of work

  • Be in compliance with the State of California requirements and qualifications as defined in Title 22 for a preschool teacher
  • Responsible for furthering one’s growth and knowledge in Early Childhood Education by continuing education, readings, and/or attending workshops and seminars
  • Documentation of current infant/child CPR and first aid certification
  • Documentation of TB clearance (every 4 years)
  • Submit to fingerprinting and receive criminal clearance from the Dept. of Justice and FBI

General Description and Duties

The preschool teacher is responsible for the supervision of up to 18 students and the planning and implementation of an appropriate educational program for the children assigned to his/her class following the guidelines of the preschool’s approved curriculum. The teacher is responsible to fulfill all assigned responsibilities, duties and tasks as assigned by his/her administrator and attend a minimum of 6 hours of in-service training per year. Teachers will attend designated school events and abide by the terms and policies of the school as described in the Staff Handbook and outlined in the Employment Agreement.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise, and implement the program for the class in accordance with the policies and Christian philosophy of Calvary Murrieta Christian Preschool and Title 22 regulations
  • Plan, implement, and supervise a daily preschool/PreK classroom program that will address the spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and mental needs of the individual child in a group environment
  • Plan daily age-appropriate activities and lessons using the guidelines of the preschool’s approved curriculum and create age-appropriate supplemental activities
  • Help students explore the world around them and to understand God’s creation
  • Use your experience and training to enrich the approved curriculum to ensure a continuous stimulating and challenging learning experience for each child
  • Ensure children are supervised at all times in the classroom and on the playground
  • Plan art, music and movement activities
  • Plan activities using approved technology methods or devices
  • Responsible to write weekly lesson plans using a variety of age-appropriate activities as well as the approved curriculum
  • Lesson plans will be submitted to the director for the next week by Wednesday afternoon and posted in the classroom at the parent information center
  • Responsible for keeping parent information center in the classroom up-to-date and informative by posting reminders, flyers, or other news about upcoming activities, events, or happenings in the classroom
  • Meet with the director to review curriculum, lesson plans, activities, and evaluate program effectiveness. 
  • Will treat children with dignity and respect
  • Establish routines and provide positive guidance
  • Responsible for making a daily schedule and posting it in the parent center in the classroom
  • Clearly communicate discipline concerns to the preschool director
  • Monitor classroom behavior, recognize and adapt to problems
  • Will abide by a code of confidentiality in all matters involving the children and families enrolled in the school
  • Responsible for classroom décor and maintaining a welcoming learning environment
  • Keep all toys and equipment in the classroom clean and sanitized using only pre-approved cleaning products
  • Responsible for an equal share of joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff. This can include vacuuming, emptying trash, cleaning sinks, dusting furniture, and sweeping floors and sidewalks
  • Must attend all scheduled staff meetings, curriculum planning sessions, and professional growth training days. These meetings may require you to be at the school longer than your assigned schedule
  • Will implement methods for effectively utilizing a classroom assistant(s), including clear communication and careful supervision. Will give input to the director on the classroom assistant’s performance for evaluation
  • Provide day-to-day supervision and support to classroom aides, substitutes, and volunteers which include sharing daily program plans and discussing goals for children
  • Will plan and implement methods of establishing positive relationships with parents. This includes daily contact with parents as well as attending specific events and meetings; i.e., Meet-Your-Teacher Day, Back-to-School Night, Open House, ACSI Conferences, school programs, special events, conferences, class parties, etc. Will initiate extra conferences as needed throughout the school year with the input of the director
  • Help parents understand the curriculum and find ways to involve parents in the program
  • Will maintain a portfolio on every student in your classroom to consist of work samples, observation notes, written goals, photos and developmental progress tracking
  • Will evaluate students on an on-going basis the spiritual, social, emotional, and intellectual level of the individual child. Will prepare a formal written evaluation for each student two times in each school year and meet with the student’s parents to orally present the data
  • Will assist and participate in special events scheduled by the school i.e., Back-to-School Night, Open House, Harvest Celebration, Thanksgiving Feast, Mother’s Day, Pajama Days, etc
  • Will work an altered schedule on special event days i.e. arriving early to assist with set-up and staying longer to assist with clean-up
  • Will assist in designated public relations and community events sponsored by the school
  • Will assist and participate in school planned fundraisers
  • Requisition and possibly shop for classroom supplies as needed
  • Report the maintenance and custodial needs of your classroom and the playground
  • Prepare a monthly parent newsletter
  • Serve daily snacks for the students in your class per Title 22 regulations
  • Assist with supervising lunch time
  • Responsible for providing opportunities for the children to learn Bible stories, age-appropriate Biblical principles, and Christian songs
  • Plan and conduct chapels as assigned
  • Plan and conduct staff devotions as assigned
  • May be required to prepare cots or mats for napping children
  • Responsible for the ongoing safety of the children under your supervision
  • Responsible for implementing on-site field trips and activity days that compliment the curriculum and extend learning experiences
  • Maintain appropriate ratios and an accurate attendance count of the children at all times
  • Monitor the daily sign-in and sign-out to make sure that the parents have properly signed their child in and out
  • Responsible for having the children and your classroom assistant in your visual sight at all times
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality
  • Perform any additional appropriate duties as assigned by the director

Physical Qualifications

  • Be able to observe, hear, and respond to the needs of children and to emergencies or conflicts that might arise in a classroom, on the playground, or in common areas
  • Have the ability to lift up to fifty pounds as needed throughout the work day
  • Be able to squat/kneel to a child’s height, maintain eye contact at a child’s level, sit on the floor, stand tall enough to assist children on play equipment, see, hear, and speak with children to ensure their health and safety, sit in chairs that are 12 to 14 inches from the floor
  • Be physically able to perform housekeeping duties to ensure a neat and organized work area (classrooms, playground) which might include, but is not limited to, putting supplies away, vacuuming floors, dusting furniture, emptying trash cans, cleaning sinks and sweeping floors and sidewalks
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Be exposed to sunlight
  • Able to care for up to 24 children at a time
  • Positively handle the stress, tension and exasperation of daily contact with staff members, parents, and children

Playground

  • Responsible for constant supervision of the children to ensure their safety and prevention of accidents
  • Responsible for assisting children to abide by the playground rules
  • Responsible for helping with the maintenance of the playground to ensure safety, such as sweeping the sidewalks
  • Responsible for reporting any repairs or maintenance that needs to be done on the equipment or environment
  • Responsible for assisting and directing any special activities that have been planned
  • Responsible for teaching your class to put away toys and to park tricycles before returning to class

Health & Safety

  • Responsible for making daily health observations of the children and reporting conditions needing attention
  • Responsible for ensuring the safety of the children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, and proper set-up and maintenance of equipment
  • Responsible for assisting children with bathroom needs and guiding them towards proper manners
  • Will administer first aid and document “OUCH” or “ACCIDENT” reports as needed
  • Responsible for understanding the school’s fire drill and disaster procedures
  • Responsible for keeping the emergency preparedness bag and classroom first aid kid up-to-date on supplies and information
  • Responsible for staying informed and instructed regarding any medical alert situations with children such as bee stings, asthma, or allergies

Snacks, Lunches, Cooking Activities

  • Responsible for obtaining information from parents regarding any food allergies their child(ren) may have, posting that information and making sure precautions are always taken
  • Responsible for teaching children table manners for all food activities
  • Responsible for sitting and eating with the children during lunch time and assisting them when needed
  • Responsible for cooking activities that are age-appropriate, and that safety precautions are used, especially with sharp knives and anything hot
  • Responsible for cleaning children’s faces after snack, lunch, and cooking activities
  • Responsible for cleaning and disinfecting all tables and counter tops that have been used for food-related activities
  • Responsible for sweeping under tables and for cleaning up spills and messes
