Work Schedule: Sundays 7:00am-2:00pm, Wednesday Evenings 5:30pm-8:30pm and as needed for occasional special events during evenings and weekends
                           12-16 hours per week
Rate of pay: 18.00

Cafe Manager

General Purpose

The Church Café Manager oversees the daily operations of the church café, ensuring excellent customer service, food safety, and a welcoming environment that aligns with the church’s mission. This role includes managing staff and volunteers, maintaining inventory, and creating a space for fellowship and community building.

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversee daily café operations, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards and local health regulations.
  • Manage cash handling, point of sale (POS) systems, and financial reporting.
  • Recruit, train, and schedule café staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and service-oriented behavior.
  • Ensure that all customers receive a warm welcome and excellent service.
  • Address any complaints or concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Order, receive, and maintain inventory of food, beverages, and café supplies.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure timely restocking.
  • Collaborate with church leadership to develop and maintain a menu that serves the needs of the congregation.
  • Incorporate seasonal items, special events, or ministry-focused options.
  • Partner with church ministries, as needed to support events, meetings, and gatherings with café services.
  • Promote café offerings through church communication channels.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, including daily sales, inventory costs, and staff hours.
  • Work with church leadership to develop and manage the café’s budget.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in food service management or a similar role (preferred).
  • Experience working with volunteers (preferred).
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering a culture of service.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Basic proficiency in POS systems and budgeting software.
  • Passion for serving the church community.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the church.
  • A servant-leader mindset with a heart for hospitality.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly as an essential function of the job.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of café supplies.
  • Manual dexterity to operate kitchen equipment, cash registers, and other café tools.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, including during peak hours such as Sunday, Wednesday Church Services and special church events.
